A Beautiful Wildflower Garden in July

In 2019 in the autumn, Studioamano sowed a wildflower garden for one of our Devon projects. This spring it re-appeared in all its wonderful glory and now in July it is flourishing.

In the wildflower garden we sowed: Yarrow, Agrimony, Common Knapweed, Wild Carrot, Hedge Bedstraw, Lady's Bedstraw, Meadow Crane's-bill, Field Scabious, Rough Hawkbit, Oxeye Daisy, Musk Mallow, Ribwort Plantain, Cowslip, Selfheal, Meadow Buttercup, Bulbous Buttercup, Yellow Rattle, Common Sorrel, Bladder Campion, Dandelion, Common Vetch, Bluebells, Poppies and Cornflowers.

The benefit of wildflower gardens and meadows is that their permanence allows communities of plants and pollinators time to establish and creates a larger nectar source to sustain these species.

In late Autumn, after flowering, the long grass and wildflowers will be strimmed and the strimmings will be left on top of the meadow for a few days before raking them up and removing them. This allows the seeds to drop to the ground to re-start the process.
