Whether you're looking for a long stroll in gorgeous surroundings or seeking some amazing art in a natural environment or perhaps you are are a horticulturalist eager to learn more, here are our top 3 choices of the best gardens to visit in Devon:.

The 1,200-acre Dartington Hall estate is an award-winning destination in Devon which sits between Dartmoor National Park and the English Riviera coast.

It has a woodland garden with rhododendrons, azaleas and magnolias set around a series of terraces on the steep hillside. There are magnificent trees, a Japanese Garden and borders all of which are meticulously maintained. There are also historic sculptures including creations from Henry Moore.

A public display garden run by the Royal Horticultural Society in north Devon.

Today Rosemoor Garden covers 65 acres tucked into the north-east corner of the estate, it is dominated by surrounding woodlands, with a number of discrete areas where choice subjects take full advantage of the warmth and shelter offered by the south-westerly aspect and high ground to the north. It includes a visitor centre, a library, a plant centre, a shop, a restaurant and the Wisteria tearoom.

A 1920s country retreat, the garden is nestled in a coastal valley and sheltered from the elements, allowing tender and exotic plants to thrive. With sea views, woodland to walk in and formal terraces filled with colour to explore.

Truly great gardens to visit.
