International Women's Day 2021

As I walked along the river bank this morning this beautiful sparkling scene appeared and I was reminded that today is International Women's Day.

It led me to consider what the swan symbolises.

The swan represents grace, beauty, love, trust and loyalty. Swan symbolism is also linked to feminine inner beauty, strength and self love.

Like a swan, graceful but paddling hard below the surface.

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women's equality.

A part of the International Women's Day Mission is to celebrate women in the workplace and forge inclusive work cultures where women's careers thrive and achievements are celebrated.

(as well as in Creativity, Technology, Sport, Health and Empowerment)

Swan Inspiration:

A Russian ballerina from the world-renowned Mariinsky Theatre dressed in full costume performs scenes from Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake… not on stage though, but on the frozen Gulf of Finland.

This is Ilmira Bagrautinova's way of objecting against the construction of a port in Batareinaya Bay, a popular beach about 100 km west of St Petersburg, Russia's second largest city.

Bagrautinova danced in -15C and posted her videos online. She hopes her performance will save real swans which nest in the bay.
