Characterful Kitchen Design

1

Be Creative

Pick one focal point in your kitchen design and complement that area with a few other quieter, less eye-catching items. This could be a beautiful butlers sink or an impressive appliance, such as a fridge or cooking range.

2

Re-Claim / Re-Cycle

It is well worth considering using reclaimed items, such as ceramic sinks and stone worktops. These can bring a timeless character to the space.

3

Unusual Colour Schemes

Why not go for a bold paint colour. We recommend using colour sparingly and only in key areas. In the kitchen image below, a spicy terracotta paint has been used on the cupboard doors, in harmony with the white walls and natural wood finishes. Avoid glossy paints and opt for a soft sheen finish, for a more sophisticated look.

4

Vintage Accents

Vintage lighting such as decorative pendants and wall lights and kitchen accessories such as utensils, crockery and storage jars add another layer of eye catching detail to a kitchen area.

5

All on Show

Why not create open shelving joinery units to showcase your favourite accessories and crockery.

6

Decorative Worktops

There are numerous innovative worktop options available for kitchens, in a plethora of colours and patterns. Consider natural materials such as marbles and granites or alternatively try man-made composite materials. Remember to consider the sustainability of materials. Can they be recycled?

7

Form Expression

Use islands and cupboards to create sculptural forms. Different height work surfaces offer flexibility and practicality.

8.

Tile Style

Keep splash back finishes smooth and easy to clean. The design pattern possibilities that ceramic tiles offer are endless. Why not use them to create a unique design.

9

Mix & Mismatch

Don't fall into thinking that everything has to match. Often contrasted materials and patterns create a bold design that remains intriguing and stands the test of time.

10.

Sustainability

We always check the sustainability credentials of materials before using them. Look particularly into the 'Cradle to Cradle' certification.
