Milan Design Inspiration: Galleria Rossana Orlandi.

Almost every year for the last 12 years I have visited Milan in April for the Salone Del Mobile Furniture Fair.

This year the fair has been postponed to the 5th-10th September 2021.

The Salone Del Mobile Exhibition (in a vast exhibition hall) and its Fuori Salone (outside in the streets of the city) is a really important event in the design calender and something I really value as a designer. Whilst living in Milan, I always took part in the event in some way.

The fair is the global benchmark for the Home Furnishing and Design Sector. Many designers, clients and buyers visit the fair each year to see and buy the very latest design pieces and to take inspiration from the exquisite installations.

One of my favourite exhibitions at Salone is always held at Spazio Rossana Orlandi.

After having worked more than 20 years in fashion, in 2002 Rosanna Orlandi decided to transfer her passion for design as a private collector into an innovative gallery, a platform where to showcase her personal idea of design and lifestyle. Her constant research worldwide has made her one of the most influential person in forecasting young and upcoming designers.

A highlight of the exhibition is always the outdoor gallery in the garden courtyard cafe, where visitors can sit in the dappled sunlight of the covered garden, drink an espresso or a fresh aperitivo and take in the sights of the beatiful botanical plants, flowers and sculptural exhibits.

Inside the gallery, which has three floors and several individual rooms, Rosanna shows new and innovative work from up and coming designers and makers: Furniture pieces, both vintage and modern, lighting, objects and artworks. There is also a shop selling an eclectic mix of design vintage pieces, homewares and fragrances.

I certainly missed visiting the fair last year and very much hope to be able to visit again in the future.
