Today We Planted A Mimosa Tree

In the cottage garden project, Devon, the Mimosa tree flower shines and naturally represents the sun.

In the language of flowers, mimosa means love, safety and increased sensitivity. Mimosa is the flower of reunification.

Symbol of gold and sun, mimosa is also the image of the triumphant life, because of the hardness of the wood.

The mimosa tree is sometimes called the Persian silk tree.

The mimosa tree suits urban gardens or milder south west localities. It seems fitting that the seed collected from an urban garden in NW London are now growing as a beautiful tree in a garden in South Devon.

Early flowering in February/March time, gorgeous fluffy looking clusters of yellow flowers and delicate, evergreen leaves cover the Mimosa tree.

The English often keen on botany, were mainly based on the French Riviera in the nineteenth century. Seduced by their holidays on the Côte d'Azur, they brought mimosas there. This was imported from Australia around 1850 and adorned the gardens of its lavish residences.
